Bikes, Cigars and Coffee

This visual narrative was completed for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) to feature independent local businesses and programs within the region. The goal of this project was to meet business owners in their spaces and tell the story of their work through images. The RMWB has used these images to promote and celebrate their economic development as well as bringing awareness to local producers in the RMWB.

Cigars, Coffee and Bikes

We spent a morning with Shukri, the owner of Havana's Cafe drinking coffee and talking about his decision to open a coffee shop. We talked about Cuba and cigars and bikes and he invited us to come back later that night when he and his friends gathered together with their bikes in the parking lot to drink coffee and smoke cigars and look at and talk about bikes.

We shuffled some things around in our schedule and planned to come back around 10pm that night when the late summer sun was just starting to set.

What turned out to be a regular business shoot for the Economic Development branch turned into a beautiful night that gave insight into the character and portrait of a man at the heart of Fort McMurray's coffee scene.
