Oh Bee Hive Honey

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo economic development sector

This visual narrative was completed for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) to feature independent local businesses and programs within the region. The goal of this project was to meet business owners in their spaces and tell the story of their work through images. The RMWB has used these images to promote and celebrate their economic development as well as bringing awareness to local producers in the RMWB.

We spent a humid June afternoon with Jason the apiarist and sole proprietor at Oh Bee Hive honey. Though the hive yard was knee deep in flood water the week before, the sun and wind had dried it up enough for us to take a tour of the bees. We’ve spent a lot of time in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and really love the community and area and Oh Bee Hive Honey only increased our appreciation. While a full-time engineer on site, Jason tends to his bees in his spare time and sell the honey he harvests from them through local businesses.

It was warm and muggy the day we met at the hives and the bees were pretty calm about being handled and photographed. All in all, it’s been one of my favourite shoots we’ve been assigned in the region: good honey, great guy, amazing experience!
